POP UP SHOP | Valentine's Day with Uwila Warrior

Next week, we will host a pop-up shop with Uwila Warrior, a line of luxurious intimate apparel founded by Beacon Hill resident Lisa Mullan, an impressive business woman, entrepreneur, and mom to three.

Addressing the conundrum women face every morning of comfort versus invisible panty lines, Uwila Warrior set out to give you both, and then some. All of the styles in the collection are designed with the brand's signature "Happy Seam" vanishing edge (by the way, these are tried-and-true, the lines really are invisible!) The brand, now in its second year, offers a pair for your every mood. Soft silk or jersey knit. Solid neutrals, bold colors (think Nirvana Purple and Solar Yellow), or even glow-in-the-dark. Feeling like a 'Cranky Pants', 'Hard Ass' or in the mindset of "Kickin Butt'? They have them all. Even a special collection for Valentine's Day, which will be showcased at the pop-up.

Shop Uwila Warrior at Dress next Thursday through Sunday. Stop by Dress Thursday evening, February 9th, after 5:00, and meet the founder, Lisa, when we kickoff the collaboration. Champagne and bites will be served.

NAME:  Lisa Mullan

TITLE:  Founder/CEO Uwila Warrior

THE STORY:  We’ve all been there. There’s nothing worse than trying to conquer the world and having to slow down because our underwear is giving us a wedgie. Or, when we do wear a comfortable pair of undies, we catch a glance of ourselves in the bathroom mirror and face the harsh reality that we’re wearing granny pants. Not appealing, right?  I agree. That’s why I set out to fix this problem for women everywhere, creating a brand of comfortable and beautiful underwear that works under every one of your outfits.  That is how Uwila Warrior was created.

It’s not always what you know (and I knew nothing about the apparel industry), but who you know that can help solve a problem. In this case, that was one of my closest friends from college.  We were roommates in our early years out of college in New York City: I was slugging it out in business school and starting out as an investor during the tech boom of the late ‘90s, while my friend had landed a hot job at a young fashion company, Marc Jacobs.

As fate would have it, after almost 15 years at Marc Jacobs, my friend left in 2014. The timing couldn't have been more fortunate.  You see, my friend could make the right introductions, and connected me to another Marc Jacobs alumna, Nesli Danisman, at Angora Group, to address this monstrous issue.

My background in finance, technology and internet combined with Nesli's expertise and know-how in fashion set the stage to tackle the women’s underwear problem.  Uwila is now sold strictly online (and at this amazing Pop Up Shop with Dress). We launched last Fall and have been spreading the good word since.

FAVORITE PAIR: Talk about Sophie's Choice... That's a tough one.  At first, my favorite was the glow in the dark "happy seams". However, my kids were misbehaving one day and as I started to chase them around I yelled ‘Don’t make me mad, I’m wearing my “cranky pants” today’, then they fell right into place - so the silk “Cranky Pants” may have taken the lead. Who knew a pair of underwear could help with keeping your children in line?

VALENTINE'S DAY PLANS:  I’m currently debating between wearing my "Sex" or "TV" Uwila silks under a fabulous Ulla Johnson dress. As for plans, I have a date with my daughters to bake 40+ brownies for their birthday celebration at school on February 15th.  After that, my husband and I will chill with some good wine and a homemade dinner.  Instead of fighting the crowds we prefer to stay in and have a romantic dinner at home.
